Record response for Virgin cabin jobs

Record response for Virgin cabin jobs

Former models, dentists, accountants and traffic wardens are just some of the people hoping to start a new career in the travel industry, according to Virgin Atlantic.

Travel jobs are currently in extreme demand from people of all professions, with more than 3,000 hopeful candidates recently applying to work as cabin crew members for the company.

Some 500 new jobs with the airline, based at Gatwick and Heathrow airports, were announced earlier this month, and have received a record response.

Alex Merrylees, head of resources at Virgin Atlantic, said: "We are seeing hundreds of applicants coming through each day from all over the UK.

"The standard is extremely high and it's going to be a tough job to go through them all."

The company has given extra staff to its human resources department just to cope with the unexpected influx of enthusiastic candidates hoping to secure a role in the increasingly popular industry.
