Flight Centre reports record profits

Flight Centre

Australia-based travel agency Flight Centre has beaten its profit forecast helped by a strong UK performance despite 'challenging local conditions'.

Flight Centre made an underlying pre-tax profit of £155 million, compared to a profit of £130 million in the previous year, the best performance in the company's 30 year history.

The company has continued to expand in the UK with the opening of its second "hyperstore" in Oxford in February - the first "hyperstore" opened in London last year. Flight Centre also purchased UK website, gapyear.com, in October 2010.

Flight Centre has benefited from a general upturn in business travel across the market.

Flight Centre which now has more than 100 stores in the UK, has increased its number of travel agents in the UK by 18% in the last year.
