Clegg hails new jobs at hotel chain

A hotel group has been praised by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg for creating thousands of travel jobs in the UK.

About 3,000 posts will be generated by InterContinental Hotels (IHG) over the next three years.

Mr Clegg said IHG, which includes the Holiday Inn brand, had reached a "gold standard" through its investment in people.

The Lib Dem leader was speaking at the launch of the firm's latest hospitality training academy at the new Holiday Inn in Stratford, east London.

Richard Solomons, IHG chief executive, said: "We're pleased to be working with our hotel owners to create jobs and training opportunities in the UK at this time.

"The IHG Academy programme allows us to join with local education bodies in the UK and around the world to provide real-life skills and enhance employment prospects for local people."

Developed in partnership with Newham College, it offers students a six-month tailored course which combines four weeks of practical work experience with the best of the Hospitality Skills Diploma NVQ.
