Britons seeking winter sun break

Britons seeking winter sun break

Britons fed up with the snow and ice and freezing temperatures that accompany such weather are keener then ever to get away this year, according to Thomson.

The tour operator revealed that its website - Thomson.co.uk - had a record January, with page views up 11% year-on-year.

Thomson said that the third week in January is usually its busiest time as the joy and goodwill provided by the Christmas holidays evaporates and the thought of waiting until summer for the next break becomes too much to bear.

But this year the prospect of a harsh winter led many to jump on the net in search of some winter sun even sooner, with January 8 the busiest day for its website in terms of searches and bookings.

For those who can not face another minute without the sun to warm them, destinations such as Tenerife, Sharm el Sheikh and Mexico were most popular, the tour operator revealed.
