Virtual boost for TMC hotel bookings

A new streamlined payment process for hotel bookings made by travel management companies (TMCs) in the UK may help reduce the risk of fraud for agencies, its developer has claimed.

Sabre says its Travel Settlement Services system for UK business travel  agencies will also save time and money for TMCs by utilising a virtual credit card for bookings.

Currently, TMCs have to carry out guarantee checks and payments for their clients' hotel bookings on a manual basis using the credit card details which are contained in the traveller's profile.

Under the new Sabre system, however, a virtual credit card is created and sent to the supplier to secure the reservation. The virtual card is then charged when the traveller leaves the hotel and the system reconciles the payment to the original booking.

Harald Eisenaecher, Sabre Travel Network's senior vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: "Virtual payments eliminate expensive and time-consuming, labour-intensive reconciliation processes within the TMC.

"It will put an end to hotel bill-back, and minimise agency credit and fraud risk. The technology will save agencies time and money, allowing them to focus on servicing their travellers."
