Thomson's Euro 2012 enquiries soar

Thomson Euros 2012 enquiries soar

Thomson Sport has revealed 80% more people have expressed an interest in booking a holiday to see matches at the Euro 2012 finals in Poland and Ukraine than the number who intimated that they wanted to attend the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland.

The tour operator revealed that a large number of football fans have pre-registered for Euro 2102 holiday deals despite the fact that the draw for the group stages only takes place on Friday.

Marc Bennett, managing director of TUI Travel PLC's Sport Division, which includes Thomson Sport, said: "We have seen unprecedented demand for this event and we look forward to ensuring fans see and live the full tournament experience."

More than 1.4 million football fans are expected to travel to Poland and Ukraine to enjoy the tournament, which takes place between June 8 and July 1.

Reigning champions Spain are overwhelming pre-tournament favourites but it remains to be seen whether they can become the first country to win back-to-back European Championships.

Stadiums in Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw in Poland will host some of the 31 matches, while the rest will be held at stadiums in Donetsk, Lvov, Kharkov and Kiev in Ukraine.
