Thomas Cook staff honoured as torch bearers

Thomas Cook staff honoured as torch bearers

A group of Thomas Cook employees have been chosen to be among the 8,000 Olympic torchbearers.

Torchbearers were chosen according to their contribution to companies or charities across the UK.

The Thomas Cook employees were selected from all parts of the business and their names were revealed to TTG recently.

The firm had to choose from 100 applicants who were nominated by their colleagues. The entries consisted of employees telling their "personal best" stories.

For the chosen few, the honour can be added to other achievements realised during their travel jobs career. Among them is Dover travel agent Natalie King, who has raised more than £6,000 for charities that help children and families.

She was "overwhelmed" when she heard she had been chosen for the Olympic Torch Relay for the 2012 Games.

"I've watched the Olympics since I was a little girl - to be part of something like this is a fantastic privilege and a real honour. I turn 40 in July - this is the perfect birthday present," she said.

Managing director of Thomas Cook London 2012 Stephen Vaughan said the 10 employees had been chosen for their "outstanding contribution" to the company as well as their community.
