Staff benefit from business travel growth

More travel jobs could be advertised in the coming months as the UK's business travel sector goes from strength to strength.

Such is the health of the business travel industry that travel management companies have been rewarding their staff with more benefits of late.

A survey by the Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) revealed that 90% of its 34 members offered childcare vouchers to their staff last year, whereas only 76% of these companies had done so the year previously.

Meanwhile, 90% of firms also offered season ticket loans in 2011, up from 80% a year earlier. Nearly a third (32%) now offer enhanced maternity and paternity pay, more than triple the number of companies who did so in 2010.

Some 42% of GTMC-member companies offered flexible benefit schemes such as private medical insurance, pension contributions and dental and eye care in 2011. This is more than double the number of companies that offered these perks in 2010.

GTMC chief executive Anne Godfrey said: "Members have been telling me they are recruiting again."

Its members made more than 11 million transactions in 2011 and they account for about 80% of spending on business travel in the UK.
