Ryanair reveals 2012 recruitment push

Ryanair reveals 2012 recruitment push

Ryanair has announced that it is taking on more than 1,000 pilots, cabin crew, engineers and sales and marketing staff as part of a drive to increase its presence across Europe.

The low-cost airline is set to open a base in Manchester, as well as others in Cyprus, Denmark, Poland and Spain. It also intends to increase the size of its air fleet from 270 to 305.

Dublin-based Ryanair, which already employs 8,000 people, posted a 20% increase in profits for the six months to September 30, reaching £467.5 million. The data showed that a 37% increase in fuel costs was offset by average fares going up 13%.

The travel recruitment policy is part of a strategy in which the airline hopes to grow the number of passengers from the 2011 total of 76 million to 80 million this year.

Some of the new jobs will be created at the new Manchester base, although precise details have yet to be finalised, according to a Ryanair spokeswoman.
