Rise in business travel for IAG

Rise in business travel for IAG

A continued rise in the number of passengers flying business or first class helped boost December traffic for International Airlines Group (IAG).

IAG - formed by the merger of BA and Iberia - reported a 13.6% rise in first and business-class travel compared to the same period a year earlier, and a 12% increase in non-premium travel.

These figures show that many firms used IAG airlines for business travel during the month.

A 10% rise in passenger carryings for the group was also reported - taking numbers up to 3.8 million.

An IAG spokesperson said: "Underlying market conditions appear unchanged, but there was a significant reduction in Iberia's short haul premium traffic compared to last year, influenced by the strikes during the month and the weakening economic environment."
