'Record interest' in Japan holidays

'Record interest' in Japan holidays

The Japanese tourism sector seems to have recovered from the earthquake and tsunami in March this year, as new research from an international travel website suggests interest in the country has reached a new high for 2011.

TripAdvisor said searches for Japan on its website have been rising steadily since May this year and reached a record level for 2011 in October. They are now at the same level as they were in October 2010.

"Japan is a beautiful country with plenty to offer the discerning traveller," commented Emma Shaw, TripAdvisor spokesperson.

"We're happy to see that after such a tough time, tourism interest in the country has recovered and we hope that many travellers are currently planning their trips to Japan."

The survey follows another TripAdvisor poll which found that four in five British tourists would feel safe on a trip to Japan. The World Travel & Tourism Council is also supporting the Asian country by hosting its 2012 Global Summit in Tokyo/Sendai.
