Quantas offers free flights to thousands

Free flights are being given out by Qantas Airways to the tens of thousands of passengers who were left stranded when the airline grounded its fleet after strike action by its staff.

The airline stopped flying last week and initiated a work stoppage for all employees because of continuing union strikes and other job actions becoming too disruptive, but on Monday a court put an end to the strike action and it resumed its services.

Qantas have now announced through social media that Australian passengers who were affected by the strikes are being offered the chance to fly to anywhere in Australia or to New Zealand for free and the airline will announce soon what overseas customers and frequent fliers will be offered.

Australian based Qantas is the world's 10th largest airline and unions had concerns that a restructuring plan would move jobs overseas.
