Professionals 'attracted to travel jobs'

Professionals 'attracted to travel jobs'

People from a diverse range of professions are starting to seek out travel jobs to move forward into a fresh career, it has been claimed.

Professionals such as bankers, social workers and tax inspectors have decided to turn their backs on their current careers to instead work as flight attendants, according to Virgin Atlantic.

The airline revealed that the majority of its current cabin crew have bachelor or masters degrees in a wide variety of subjects that often have nothing to do with the travel industry.

The firm said it believed many people had simply decided they wanted to make a change, however it also factored in the impact of current unemployment levels.

Virgin Atlantic's Anna Catchpole explained how many professionals had decided to re-examine what they thought was important.

She said: "With so much uncertainty, people want to live for the moment, so a nine-to-five existence to pay for a mortgage and a car no longer holds much attraction.

"Big companies are always urging employees to indulge in blue-sky thinking, and now hundreds of executives are literally putting that philosophy into practice."
