OBE awarded to WTM's Fiona Jeffery

The chairman of World Travel Market - one of the industry's biggest trade exhibitions - has received an OBE in the New Year Honours list.

Fiona Jeffery - who also founded the international water aid charity Just a Drop, of which she is also chairman - was given the honour for services to the tourism industry.

Starting her career at Reed Exhibition Companies - the firm that organises World Travel Market - in 1986, she quickly cemented herself as a pivotal member of the company, helping launch Arabian Travel Market in the early 1990s.

In 1993 she took on one of the most lucrative travel jobs in the industry, becoming exhibition director of World Travel Market.

She has been responsible for the creation of the Ministers' Summit and World Responsible Tourism Day during her time at the company.
