New Suffolk travel agent sets up

One former Thomas Cook manager is opening a new travel agents in Suffolk.

Lee Hunt, a one-time regional manager for the holiday company, is establishing his own firm with his wife Sarah.

They have already taken on two experienced staff in travel jobs, to get the ball rolling ahead of the January 9 opening.

Deben Travel will be part of the Global Travel Group, based in the wealthy market town of Woodbridge - whose river shares the name Deben.

Mr Hunt has just spent four years away from the industry, managing branches of Boots across the capital.

He said: "One night I got home and just said 'we should do it'. The next day I handed in my notice.

"I appreciate I will have half the salary and double the stress but the part of my career I really enjoyed was booking holidays."

Deben Travel will provide an appointments service, with coffee and soft drinks offered to people while they wait.

Mr Hunt added: "We don't want to be an elitist agency that turns away bookings. For example, people in Woodbridge don't have anywhere to book National Express tickets but we will book them."
