Jet2.com adds new flights for 2012

More than 100 jobs are to be created when low-cost carrier Jet2.com expands its routes out of Newcastle Airport.

The firm is upping its annual capacity to 600,000 seats by operating new flights to Bodrum, Rome, Reus and Venice.

Passengers will be able to set off to these destinations from May 31 next year, with a sixth aircraft to be based at the airport.

The move is part of a wider expansion of operations at Newcastle by the airline as it aims to attract an extra 80,000 passengers by serving 27 destinations from next summer.

As part of the expansion, Jet2.com is upping the number of flights it undertakes to places such as Faro, Menorca, Malaga, Cork, Prague and Krakow.

Managing director Ian Doubtfire said the latest announcements were good news for the local economy, adding: "Our partnership with Newcastle College to deliver first-class training to our growing team of cabin crew across all our bases, further demonstrates our commitment to the local economy."
