Huge demand for Travelodge apprenticeships

Demand for a Travelodge junior management apprenticeship programme has been overwhelming, the firm has revealed.

The stepping-stone positions at the budget hotel company have attracted more than 3,000 applications, 66 for every opening. The most popular cities in terms of applications are London, Liverpool, Glasgow and Birmingham.

In addition to this programme, Travelodge plans to open 41 hotels in 2012, creating 1,000 jobs.

The firm's human resources director Michelle Luxford was surprised by the number of people seeking travel jobs via the scheme.

She said: "The demand for our apprenticeship programme and hotel positions is like nothing I have ever seen before in my career.

"We have had candidates from all corners of the UK applying for a place on our programme. The intake to the programme this year is three times bigger than it was last year.

"So eager are today's youngsters that they are texting, tweeting, emailing, visiting our Facebook and Linkedin sites to ensure their application has been received."

The firm will only take on 120 apprentices from the 3,000 who applied, who will join an existing group of 35 trainees.
