Ian Derbyshire to leave Thomas Cook

Thomas Cook

Thomas Cook's head of retail Ian Derbyshire is set to leave the company. He is the second high profile member of staff to leave the tour operator in recent weeks, after the departure of chief executive Manny Fontenla-Novoa last week.

Derbyshire was supposed to lead the proposed merger with the Co-Operative Travel and Midlands Co-Operative, but will now be replaced by Simon Robinson, current managing director of e-commerce at the company.

Thomas Cook has recently been plagued with a collapse in share prices and profit warnings, and a number of high level members of staff have left the company over the course of this year. Ian Derbyshire had been with the company for over a decade.

A spokesperson for Thomas Cook said: "We can confirm that Ian Derbyshire is leaving the company to take the helm at his family's developing child activity business in the northwest."

Derbyshire himself said: "The Co-op joint venture will be industry-changing - something that Thomas Cook excels at - and I will be the most avid onlooker as the deal is completed and the merged company comes to life. [But] after spending the last 18 years working away, it is now time to concentrate on my family and on taking our small, but successful, northwest venture to the next level."
