Competition Commission put delay on Thomas Cook/Co-op merger


Thomas Cook

The Competition Commission has delayed the final ruling on the Thomas Cook and Co-operative Travel merger.

Comments on the proposed merger previously had to be submitted by August 16th, however this has now been pushed back by eight weeks to October 11th 2011.

Chairman of the Competition Commission group Laura Carstensen said: "The group considers it important to allow sufficient time to take full account of any comments received in response to its provisional findings. The group nevertheless intends to publish its final report as soon as possible."

If the merger goes ahead it will create a retail chain of 1,240 shops across the UK, bringing together two of the leading tour operators in the market.
