'Business tourism' on the increase

'Business tourism' on the increase

Research has suggested that business travellers from emerging economies are more likely to combine their work trips with a holiday than those in Britain.

The Amadeus-commissioned report examined how business and leisure travellers will be affected by new technological breakthroughs in the coming 10 years.

The study found that 71% of business travellers from emerging economies travelled for a combination of business and leisure reasons.

However, it added that only around two fifths of business travellers from the UK and other developed countries would combine a work trip with a relaxing break.

The rise of the " business travel tourist" will be among the main trends to take hold in the coming few years, according to the report. The study added that in the future firms may be more open to allowing employees to combine work and play on such trips.

One key finding was that business travellers increasingly want a "home from home" when they are away.

The report said: "Business travellers are much more likely to feel frustrated if they can't get an internet connection, or they are forced to use an unfamiliar or substandard service, or they cannot access the same media in their hotel room that they can at home, than their leisure counterparts."
