Awards celebrate travel industry

The achievements of people working in travel jobs  have been celebrated at the prestigious Globe Travel Awards in London.

More than 1,000 people employed in the industry descended on the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane for the honours night on Wednesday.

Thomson took three prizes, while Superbreak, Attraction World and Royal Caribbean all enjoyed success in two categories.

The special Contribution To The Industry award went to Gordon 'Butch' Stewart, who founded Sandals, while the Innovation in Travel Award was handed to Digital Visitor.

Clive Jacobs, chairman of Travel Weekly Group, said: "The Globes continue to set the benchmark for industry events, and tonight's show was a great celebration of our industry as we enter this Olympic year."

As well as the presentation of the awards, guests at the show enjoyed performances by X Factor star Misha B and beatbox champion Faith SFX.
