Airline launches new airport routes

Airline launches new airport routes
An airline is launching a number of new routes from UK airports from summer 2012 in a move which is to create up to 200 jobs at Birmingham Airport, according to an airport spokesman.

Monarch Airlines is expanding to launch routes across Italy, Croatia and Greece, with two Airbus A320 aircraft helping with extra demand.

Passengers will fly to Rome, Milan and Venice, Dubrovnik, and Heraklion on the new routes, from Gatwick, Luton, Birmingham and Manchester.

The airline's managing director Kevin George said the company is very excited to add new aircraft to its fleet and bring in its first flights to Italy and Croatia.

He said it was "fantastic news for our customers in the Midlands and cements Birmingham as one of Monarch's key UK airports."

The airport's chief executive officer, Paul Kehoe, said the industry was "clearly impressed" with its work involving "considerable investment in facilities and with plans to commit £100m over the next 10 years."

Mr Kehoe said: "We have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the airline and we look forward to working further with Monarch and building on our successful partnership with them to promote and launch their new routes."

Monarch has operated from Birmingham since 2005.
