Abu Dhabi on track for 2m guests

Abu Dhabi on track for 2m guests

Abu Dhabi is on track to meet its 2011 hotel guest target after more than one-and-a-half million tourists flew to the destination this year.

The figures from the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) reveal that 1,697,140 guests stayed in hotels and apartments in the capital during the first 10 months of the year.

This puts the tourist destination on track to meet its two million hotel guest target for 2011.

The figures show a strong increase on the visitor numbers for 2010, with hotel guests reaching 182,553, up 21% on the same month last year.

Guest nights also saw a 17% rise from last October to 582,929, while occupancy was up 7%.

The travel increase will not only be good news for Abu Dhabi's hotels, but also the travel industry and tour operators as well.

During the month more British tourists stayed in Abu Dhabi's hotels, with visitor numbers reaching 13,065, up 13% on the same period last year.

Lawrence Franklin, strategy & policy director, at Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) said: "The signs are good for achieving our end of year target with expected strong figures for November resulting from the third Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and with an end-of-year influx anticipated as guests arrive for the New Year's hosting of the Volvo Ocean Race fleet."
