Tax File Number
This is required to start working. Make an appointment at your local Australian Taxation Office, once you arrive. Useful information can be found on www.ato.gov.au.
Accommodation
For short-term accommodation upon arrival check. www.yha.com.au For longer term rentals www.realestate.com.au and www.tntmagazine.com
Mobile Phones
Having a mobile phone will make it much easier for recruitment agencies to contact you is also useful for organising accommodation and your social life! Start with a Pay as You Go deal. It may be possible to just get a new SIM card for your current mobile. Check this before you get to Australia.
Bank Accounts
You will need to open up a local bank account in order to get paid. Australia's leading banks include Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank, Wespac, ANZ and St George. Find a local branch in the UK to set this up before you leave.
